Over at the L.A. Times they note that Google has “quietly rolled out” a totally new feature–Google Dictionary. It’s simple: When you google a word or phrase inside the Dictionary page, Google returns search answers that gives you the definition of your search phrase drawn from its own database, academically approved sources and Wikipedia.

Sounds easy, doesn’t it? And it marries with Google’s previous efforts to expand its services very neatly–particularly since Google is now the world’s expert on “looking things up.” But the potential effects are pretty huge. Because the big dictionary makers each have their own effort at capturing an online audience to supplement falling sales of their ink and paper copies–a change caused by automated spell-checkers and the rise of the Net. And now they’re simply going to lose some of their online business to Google without Google having to make much of an effort. Of course those with an academic bent will probably want to know the authoritative definitions and etymology of particular words, and they’ll continue to be big-name dictionary customers. For now. Because you can bet it won’t be long before Google’s mastery over the dictionary is total.

Well, Twitter Japan To Introduce Paid Premium Accounts Next January.

The news of the day in social media land: Twitter is apparently going to start experimenting with paid premium accounts through its Japanese subsidiary, which has always been a bit separated from the rest of Twitter and in many ways a playground for the company (Groups, Twicco, Twitvideo.jp).

Details are sketchy at this point, but Japanese media are reporting that Twitter is going to introduce a tiered payment model and aims to charge people to view tweets from certain premium Twitter accounts.

Sherzaad Entertainment is one of the most prestigious Afghan entertainment companies in Canada. They have been credited with organizing some of the most successful concerts and other entertainment events for the Afghan community in Canada. Sherzaad Entertainment has aimed and successfully delivered on their promise to bring original ideas to the table and to take the Afghan entertainment industry to new heights. In addition to their commercial events, Sherzaad Entertainment has also organized various fundraising events to assist aid organizations and orphanages in Afghanistan.

Requirement:
Sherzaad Entertainment had a set goal and vision in sight. They were seeking an agency that could understand their business model, help rebrand the identity, and reinvigorate their online presence.

Their existing website fell short on speed and support for their impressive portfolio of photographic, music and video media. Furthermore, Sheerzad Entertainment wanted an interactive blog to easily and efficiently share and communicate their progress and events with visitors. Accessibility, functionality, and a rich design – these were three core elements to the new website.

<img class="cleanimg alignright"src="http://www.appfy.com/wp-content/uploads/portfolio/appfy_portfolio_t_57.jpg" alt="Appfy has designed the new website for Sherzaad.ca" />
Creative:
Appfy’s team took on a phased approach on this project. Researching was critical as the new website, being both a formal and an interactive blog, had to be capable of displaying a complete portfolio and be compatible with different media. The main framework of the website was based on a Wordpress platform due to its ease of use and rich functionality. To truly give the user a rich experience, flash animation on the home page combined Sherzaad photography, traditional music, and accented tones of colour.

Technical:

An easy to use Wordpress CMS was built at the heart of the new site. Using Flash, XML, MySQL and CSS technology, it was built to drive usable and functionally rich content, such as their regular news and portfolio. We migrated the content from the existing site and channeled into the new framework.

Achievement:
The launch of the new website was a success and came on time with their biggest concert tour. Clients as well as fans had the opportunity to read on the events, enjoy the pictures and videos, and added their compliments to Sherzaad’s success.
